“Bioactive 4th Generation Folic Acid for the best absorption”

Qfolic plays a vital role in the wellbeing of the unborn child and health of women. Its benefits include cell reproduction, a critical process during pregnancy & infancy, maintaining normal brain function, preventing birth defects and making healthy red blood cells.

If you are wondering about the role of specific nutrient in Qfolic, read this guide to understand why your body needs it and what is its dietary source.

    “The first wealth is health.”

    Healthy fetal growth & development

Folic acid or its equivalent folate, is a water-soluble vitamin B9 present in certain food types like Spinach, liver, asparagus, and brussels sprouts. It is essential for healthy fetal growth and development and hence highly recommended during pregnancy.

Qfolic has biologically active folic acid, with better bioavailability, better solubility, and safety. Unlike some other variants of folic acid, Qfolic does not need any metabolization and does not expose cells to unmetabolized folic acid (UMFA).

    Folate deficiency

Folate deficiency can occur due to a variety of causes, including inadequate dietary intake, surgery, pregnancy, and malabsorptive diseases. Deficiency can result in serious side effects, including megaloblastic anemia, birth defects, mental impairment, impaired immune function and depression.

    Important Information

    Frequently Asked Questions

Qfolic is a 4th generation bioactive folate or B9- vitamin. It is important for a baby’s early development. A woman who plans to conceive or is pregnant should consume 400 micrograms (mcg) of Qfolic every day to ensure her baby’s proper growth and development and to prevent her baby from NTD (Neural tube defects).

Qfolic can be taken by women in child bearing age, those who are planning to conceive, are pregnant or breast feeding and those people suffering from folate deficiency anaemia.

Quatrefolic for higher risk management. Some individuals are associated with a higher risk, e.g. higher risk of having a baby with birth defects or having diseases like diabetes, epilepsy etc. For such people, Qfolic HR could be recommended by the doctor.

Some people due to variation in the genetic makeup or genetic polymorphism are unable to use folic acid. Such patients require Qfolic / Qfolic HR to fulfil the requirements.

Qfolic is recommended 3 months prior to conception till 1st trimester for the prevention of neural tube defects & other congenital anomalies. Moreover, Qfolic can be used in other states where indicated including patients with mouth ulcers, cardiac patients with high homocysteine levels, patients on anti-epileptic therapy or those who are consuming methotrexate.

There are 4 generations of folate:
    1. Food Folate
    2. Synthetic folic acid
    3. L-methyl folate – Calcium
    4. Quatrefolic

    Folic acid:
Folic acid itself is not the active form of folate but to get activated it must be metabolized through several steps, it has lesser bioavailability, has tolerable limit of 1mg/day and is not much water soluble.

    Quatrefolic acid:
It is biologically active form and can directly enter the folate cycle, has three times higher bioavailability, tolerability high and not established and it is water soluble.

Neural tube defects are serious birth defects of the brain and spinal cord. The two most common neural tube defects are spina bifida (a spinal cord defect) and anencephaly (a brain defect). Neural tube defects develop very early during pregnancy when the neural tube, which forms the early brain and the spinal cord, does not close properly.

While certain food types can be good sources of folate, all nutritional requirements may not be fulfilled through diet alone. Requirement of folic acid increases during pregnancy and hence daily supplement of 400 mcg is recommended.

Take Qfolic until the 12th week of your pregnancy and consult your doctor for any additional requirement or dose adjustment.

Qfolic can be taken with or without food with a glass of water.

A diet low in fresh fruits, vegetables, and fortified cereals may lead to folate deficiency. In addition, overcooking food can sometimes decrease vitamins.

Qfolic is 400mcg Quatrefolic per tablet and is an essential supplement for every normal pregnancy where as Qfolic HR has 1000mcg Quatrefolic per tablet and is recommended for patients with history of folic acid deficiency and miscarriage.

Yes, Qfolic HR can be taken in normal pregnancy without any issue.

    Nausea, or mild abdominal cramps.
